Amityville Soccer League Alumnae Make Good

Two recent "graduates" of the Amityville Soccer League have much to be proud of after their stellar performances and that of their teams. Allison Schmidt and Jackie Ubert spent more than a decade of their youth representing the Village of Amityville , playing intramural soccer and as teammates on Dennis Siry's Tropical Storm.

Very few people on this mortal coil can say they played for a NCAA National Championship Team, but Allison Schmidt is one who breathes that rarefied air. Allison is a sophomore at The College of St. Rose, Albany , NY . She is a midfield defender on the team that won the NCAA 2011 Div II Women's Soccer National Championship. Ranked number 10 in the country, the Golden Knights ( 24-1-1 ) won 2-0 in the semi-finals, beating nationally ranked (# 7) Armstrong Atlantic State , GA ( 18-3-3 ) to reach the finals.

On December 3, 2011 Allison's team played number 1 ranked, and undefeated, Grand Valley State (20-0-4). Grand Valley took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at half time, but the Golden Knights came out smoking in the second half, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes and spending the final 25 minutes defending their 2-1 lead, which gave St. Rose its first national championship in school history.

Allison is majoring in Childhood Education. She has been on the Dean's List all three semesters. Allison was also on the NCAA All Academic Team.

Something must be in Amityville's water as Allison's former teammate, Jackie Ubert, a political science major, helped lead the University of Albany to the conference championship game against Boston University . Alas, two national champions with players from Amityville were not to be as Boston U squeaked by, 2-0. Nevertheless, Jackie shined as she had three consecutive shut-outs leading to the Great Danes' appearance in the finals. Did someone say Amityville - Albany pipeline?
